IBA Human Rights Institute Briefs US Supreme Court
The US Supreme Court has received a brief from the IBA stating that Guantanamo Bay detainees are entitled by law to challenge their detention in court. The brief was submitted in advance of Supreme Court hearings on the issue expected to take place in March or early April.

Coming from the International Bar Association’s (IBA) Human Rights Institute, the brief adds new weight to those who have raised questions about the legality of the detentions. Read more.
 


SBL Joins Action in Europe to Reinstate Legal Privilege for In-House Counsel
The Section on Business Law (SBL) of the International Bar Association has filed with the Court of First Instance of the European Communities an application for leave to intervene in the case between Akzo Nobel Chemicals Ltd and Akcros Chemicals Ltd (Applicants), and the Commission of the European Communities (Defendant). HRI Supports Calls for the Introduction of Electronic Recording in Japan’s Police Interviews
The Human Rights Institute IBA has released its report proposing the introduction of electronically recording interviews of persons suspected of criminal activity in Japan: Interrogation of Criminal Suspects in Japan. Read more.
