The US Supreme Court has received a brief from the IBA stating that Guantanamo Bay detainees are entitled by law to challenge their detention in court. The brief was submitted in advance of Supreme Court hearings on the issue expected to take place in March or early April. 
The Section on Business Law (SBL) of the International Bar Association has filed with the Court of First Instance of the European Communities an application for leave to intervene in the case between Akzo Nobel Chemicals Ltd and Akcros Chemicals Ltd (Applicants), and the Commission of the European Communities (Defendant). 
The Human Rights Institute IBA has released its report proposing the introduction of electronically recording interviews of persons suspected of criminal activity in Japan: Interrogation of Criminal Suspects in Japan. 
The IBA Communications Law Committee is organising for the second year a writing competition for young lawyers, on the occasion of the Conference of the Antitrust and Trade Law Committee and Communications Law Committee, to be held in Rome on May 17 - 18 2004.
